JANUARY 21-22, 2005
A great time was had by all at the 2005 Conestoga River Alaskan Luau Klondike Derby! It was a true Klondike with the snow that added to the winter experience!
Present at this year's Klondike were (230) youth and (95) adult leaders composing the (18) registered Troops, (2) of which were from another district. Camping out in tents on Friday night were (13-14) Troops and it was one of the highest Friday night attendance records in the last few years! Word has it that the temperature Friday night was between 5 and 8 degrees! So how many earned their Sub 32 Camping patch??
In light of Saturday's afternoon snow storm, the Klondike committee ended the competition at 2pm so that Troops could head home.
The awards were then announced and presented at the District Roundtable on Thursday, 2/3/05.
Participating in the competition were (36) Patrols. Check out the awards page for this year's results. As always there were some awesome sleds, flags and of course, tons of Scout Spirit! Great Job Scouts!
And despite not being able to use the camp kitchen, which is under renovation, the Grubmasters still supplied a piping hot lunch for the 350+ people in attendance! MMMMMMMM!
Attention collectors, patch traders and participants, there are still 2005 Klondike Mugs available for $6.00 each and Patches for $1.50 each. Check with the Klondike committee if you would like one of these souvenirs.
Thank you to the Troops running the stations and everyone that came out for this fantastic District event!
The Klondike committee would also like to say a special thanks to Judy and Dave Trost, John Richardson, Bob Lenhart and Mike Witmer for their efforts throughout the weekend.
See you next year!
